OUR HERITAGE
A Story of Faith Across Generations
Zion Christian Church International is part of a wider Christian heritage associated with the Pentecostal movement that gained traction at the beginning of the twentieth century. Missionaries from the United States arrived in South Africa in 1908, established missions and baptised many African believers. In June 1908, one of the missions established in South Africa was given the name Zion Christian Church.
The Church in the form that became widely recognised across Southern Africa was established around 1924 by the founding Bishop, Engenas (Ignatious) Lekganyane, at what later became Zion City Moria in present-day Limpopo Province, South Africa. The movement spread to many parts of Africa, including Zimbabwe, then Rhodesia. ZCC International developed from this spiritual heritage and continues the work of proclaiming Christ, nurturing believers and serving communities.
